T\u00e9 n\u00famero at\u00f2mic 4, \u00e9s a dir, t\u00e9 4 protons al seu nucli (a part de neutrons), i 4 electrons al voltant. El beril\u00b7li \u00e9s un metall, de color gris platejat, i a temperatura ambient \u00e9s un material dur i trencad\u00eds. Pertany al Grup 2 (IIA) de la taula peri\u00f2dica, el que el converteix en un dels sis metalls alcalins terrestres. El beril\u00b7li \u00e9s un element amb una conductivitat t\u00e8rmica excel\u00b7lent, \u00e9s molt lleuger, i pot suportar una alta pressi\u00f3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">El beril\u00b7li t\u00e9 un dels punts de fusi\u00f3 (1287 \u00baC) i d\u2019ebullici\u00f3 (2469 \u00baC) m\u00e9s alts de tots els metalls lleugers. \u00c9s un element amb un ter\u00e7 m\u00e9s d\u2019elasticitat que l\u2019acer, i \u00e9s un material no magn\u00e8tic. Una alta exposici\u00f3 de beril\u00b7li pot causar irritaci\u00f3 als ulls i a la gola, el que pot provocar febre. Una alta i continuada exposici\u00f3 a pols de beril\u00b7li pot provocar una situaci\u00f3 on s\u2019amena\u00e7a la vida de l\u2019individu, coneguda com a beril\u00b7liosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><u><strong>Abund\u00e0ncia a la Terra<\/strong><\/u><\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">El beril\u00b7li \u00e9s un element molt rar al mantell terrestre, i encara m\u00e9s a l\u2019oce\u00e0. Al mantell terrestre hi est\u00e0 present en aproximadament 6 parts per mili\u00f3 (ppm), i en percentatges molt baixos a l\u2019atmosfera de la Terra. A l\u2019aigua marina \u00e9s encara m\u00e9s esc\u00e0s, amb una pres\u00e8ncia de tan sols 0,6 parts per bili\u00f3. El beril\u00b7li \u00e9s un element que est\u00e0 present en uns cent tipus de minerals. Els compostos coneguts m\u00e9s comuns del beril\u00b7li inclouen el beril, la bertrandita i el crisoberil. Altres compostos del beril\u00b7li s\u00f3n pedres precioses, com el beril de color verd i vermell, l\u2019aiguamarina i la maragda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><u><strong>Descoberta i hist\u00f2ria<\/strong><\/u><\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">El beril\u00b7li va ser descobert al 1797 pel qu\u00edmic i farmac\u00f2leg Nicholas-Louis Vauquelin en el beril i la maragda, per\u00f2 no va ser isolat fins al 1828 pel qu\u00edmic franc\u00e8s Antoine-Alexandre-Brutus Bussy, i, independentment, pel qu\u00edmic alemany Friedich W\u00f6hler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">El nom de beril\u00b7li prov\u00e9 de la paraula grega <em>beryllos<\/em> (beril), una pedra preciosa en la que es troba present l\u2019element. No obstant, quan es va descobrir l\u2019element, com que les sals de beril\u00b7li tenen un gust dol\u00e7, se\u2019l va anomenar glucinium, de la paraula grega <em>glykys<\/em>, que significa dol\u00e7. Tot i aix\u00ed, al 1949 l\u2019IUPAC (una instituci\u00f3 no governamental, responsable de la nomenclatura i terminologia qu\u00edmica, i que porta a terme moltes investigacions cient\u00edfiques) va decidir canviar-li el nom a beril\u00b7li, com el coneixem en els nostres dies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><u><strong>Usos del beril\u00b7li<\/strong><\/u><\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Un dels usos m\u00e9s comuns del beril\u00b7li \u00e9s el de crear aliatges amb altres materials, com per exemple el coure i el n\u00edquel, per crear diversos instruments amb propietats espec\u00edfiques, o incrementar la seva conductivitat el\u00e8ctrica i t\u00e8rmica.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Gr\u00e0cies a la seva transpar\u00e8ncia als raigs X, el beril\u00b7li s\u2019utilitza per fer finestres per als tubs de raigs X, i com a un moderador en els reactors nuclears.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>El beril\u00b7li tamb\u00e9 s\u2019utilitza per fabricar varis metalls amb una alta resist\u00e8ncia a la tracci\u00f3.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Un altre \u00fas del beril\u00b7li \u00e9s el de crear instruments amb una alta precisi\u00f3, com, per exemple, en giroscopis o en parts d\u2019ordinadors.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><u><strong>Els seus is\u00f2tops<\/strong><\/u><\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">El beril\u00b7li t\u00e9 10 is\u00f2tops coneguts, per\u00f2 nom\u00e9s tres d\u2019ells es troben de forma natural: el beril\u00b7li-7 (<sup>7<\/sup>Be), el beril\u00b7li-9 (<sup>9<\/sup>Be) i el beril\u00b7li-10 (<sup>10<\/sup>Be). L\u2019is\u00f2top m\u00e9s com\u00fa i estable d\u2019aquest element \u00e9s el <sup>9<\/sup>Be. Els altres dos s\u00f3n molt rars i s\u00f3n radioactius, tot i que tarden bastant en desintegrar-se (el <sup>10<\/sup>Be tarda uns quants milions d\u2019anys).
