Els planetes gasosos tenen unes mides molt grans, i els rocosos contenen molts minerals, per\u00f2 un cos celeste ha de complir certs requisits per poder considerar-se un planeta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Des del plantejament inicial d\u2019aquesta pregunta, al 1999, Plut\u00f3 s\u2019ha rebaixat a considerar-se com a un planeta na, en lloc de ser considerat com a planeta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Abans del segle XXI, fins i tot a principis de l\u2019any 2000, encara no hi havia una definici\u00f3 apropiada sobre el concepte de planeta. El terme \u00abplaneta\u00bb nom\u00e9s es definia com un cos que orbitava al voltant d\u2019una estrella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Per solucionar aquest problema, al 2006, la Uni\u00f3 Astron\u00f2mica Internacional (IAU, per les seves sigles en angl\u00e8s), que t\u00e9 l&#8217;\u00faltima paraula en q\u00fcestions de nomenclatura astron\u00f2mica, va votar sobre una definici\u00f3 formal del que constitueix un planeta. Segons la seva decisi\u00f3, un cos celeste ha de complir 3 requisits per a ser considerat un planeta:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Ha de ser un objecte que orbiti al voltant d\u2019una estrella de forma independent. Aix\u00f2 vol dir que les llunes no es poden considerar com a planetes, ja que orbiten al voltant d\u2019altres cossos celestes.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Ha de tenir una massa suficient per a que la seva pr\u00f2pia gravetat provoqui que tingui una forma esf\u00e8rica.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Ha de ser suficientment gran per \u00abdominar\u00bb la seva \u00f2rbita, \u00e9s a dir, la seva massa ha de ser major que qualsevol altre cos que es creui en la seva \u00f2rbita.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">Degut a que Plut\u00f3 no \u00e9s suficientment gran per \u00abdominar\u00bb la seva \u00f2rbita, no \u00e9s considerat com un planeta. Per aquest motiu, Plut\u00f3 \u00e9s catalogat com un planeta na.
